Shigure Kosaka is a master of all types of weapons. She comes across as very mysterious and also a slow talker. She believes that weaponry is a form of extension of the body, but relying on the weapon alone will not make you the master of it. Often seen alone, she doesn’t usually interact with the other masters of the dojo apart from Apachai, however as the series progress she slowly begins to open up to the others along with Kenichi. She is the master that teaches Kenichi how to use weapons and also how to overcome the fear of a weapon being used against him.
Shigure Kosaka grew up in the mountains with her father who was a genius in the crafting and wielding of weapons. In one of Akisames travels he discovered Shigure and her father in the mountains, but because her father was suffering from an terminal illness he asked Akisame for a final duel, hoping to die a warriors death. Akisame refused at first, but was forced to throw him of a cliff after a forced confrontation. Before dieing Shigure’s father admitted he did not really want to die in battle, but was trying to be a bad example so his daughter would avoid repeating his mistakes. Akisame had no choice and took on the care of Shigure and gave her the name Shigure as the father never gave her a name. He took young Shigure to an old friend of his, a master of Kousaka-style swordsmanship, to be raised and brought up there. After the passing of this master Akisame took Shigure to Ryozanpaku, Shigure now performs secret missions in locating her father’s swords and take them out of circulation, the reason for this is because she doesn’t want her father’s weapons to be used for killing, but the true intentions are still unknown.
Out of all the Masters, Shigure is the one that trains Kenichi the least. She is disappointed when Kenichi refuses to the use of weaponry but still cares for her disciple and worries about Kenichi when he is not around believing that he might have gotten into trouble or danger. She permits Akisame to tell Kenichi of her past, simply because he’s Kenichi. Shigure was the master that taught Kenichi how to swim.

Shio Sakaki “Shio Sakaki” Alternative names – 逆鬼 至緒. Voiced (Japanese) – Unshou Ishizuka. Voiced (English) – Christopher Sabat. Age – 29. Affiliation – Ryozanpaku Master. Type – Katsujin Ken, Dou. Martial Arts – Karate. First Appearance – Battle 7.

Shio Sakaki is the level 100 karate master. He claims to never take on a disciple but gradually grew to like Kenichi and was motivated to train him. Always seen with a tough guy attitude, he hides his soft side even though he worries about Kenichi the most. This is usually recognisable when he tries to lie about his concerns for Kenichi, but this never works since he’s a terrible liar. He speaks fluent English and is often seen drinking alcohol. There is little known about his past and why he became a martial artist but the majority of the underground fighters are particularly scared of Shio die to his status as a martial artist. It is said his master was a “sei” type which means his master was a good person at heart and has good intensions to train Sakaki to the level he is now.
When Kenichi was fighting Ryuto, he imitated Sakaki and laughed which is a notable trait of Sakaki. Sakaki was unaware he sounded like that and was angered by the fact Apachai was taunting him for this.

Kensei Ma “Kensei Ma” Alternative names – 馬 剣星. Voiced (Japanese) – Issei Futamata. Voiced (English) – Vic Mignogna. Age – 41. Affiliation – Ryozanpaku Master & Martial Arts Alliance. Type – Katsujin Ken, Sei. Martial Arts – Chinese Kenpo. First Appearance – Battle 7.

Kensei is the master of Chinese Kenpo. He is short, balding and is always trying to take exposing pictures of beautiful women including Shigure and Miu. Despite his actions, he always gets wrath from Miu and Shigure but still persists soon after. Even thought he acts like this now it was revealed that he use to be a handsome man in his younger days and very popular with women. Kenichi and Kensei have the closest relationship out of all the other masters in the dojo, this is because Kenichi sees him as a father figure. Though Kensei mistreats Kenichi comically like the rest of the Masters he still convinces Kenichi to go and cooperate with his plans, one of them was when Kensei convinced Kenichi to move into Ryozanpaku and the more regular one is when he tricks Kenichi into buying perverted pictures that he takes. Despite the perverted ways of this master, Kenichi still shows him as much respect and belief in Kensei’s style just as much as the rest of the Ryozanpaku teachers.
It is revealed to us that Kensei was actually a leader of the top martial arts alliance group in china made up from thousands of followers; this is found out when his 16 year old daughter Renka Ma follows him from china. His reason for leaving the alliance was because he wanted to leave his responsibilities as a leader so he left it all to his family, his wife and three daughters, and moved to Japan. He opened up an acupuncture clinic at the Ryozanpaku Dojo.
